Natalie Stone is a licensed massage therapist in Austin, TX. Here she is demonstrating Thai Message for women.
Thai Massage is a unique type of massage therapy. A type of Asian bodywork or body manipulation and usually done on the floor in a spa or parlor. The therapist uses their body against the other person’s body to stretch, relax and achieve a deep tissue massage. This demonstration is a technique called Thai Yoga Massage.
Hi, my name is Natalie Stone. I’ve been doing massage therapy in downtown Austin, Texas for eight years right here at Twelfth Street Massage Therapy.
Today we’re going to be doing a demonstration of traditional Thai Yoga massage.
I was able to spend a month in Thailand in 2009. I have been practicing Shiatsu for a good five years which is the Chinese and Japanese form of this modality of massage.
Thai massage works to free up energy throughout the body, and eastern massage practices, Japan, China, Thailand, they believe that if our energy, or our chi is flowing freely through the body that we will experience less stress, tension and illness.
So there’s a nice range of motion here.
What’s great about Thai massage is as a therapist I get to use my body to help stretch her body.
Nice deep breath. [deep breathing] Put your arms up over your head.
We’re going to come on over here and give a nice little stretch of the hips.
How’s that for you? CLIENT: Good.
This is a great hip opener.
(whispers) Grab my arms and take a nice deep breath.
So what Thai massage does is, it’s a lot of nice, gentle stretching, compression massage, working along these energy channels to kind of just free the chi and it leaves you feeling super relaxed almost like you’ve been doing yoga, but you just have to lay there and let someone do the stretching for you.
(whispers) We’re going to do one that brings you into the bridge position. Nice deep breath. CLIENT: [moan] Very nice.
(whispers) Give a nice stretch there.
So, we just saw a little bit, a little taste of Thai massage for the front and a little of the side lying positions. In Thai they start face up and work up the front of the body and maybe some side lying and then they usually move to the back.
Thanks so much for watching.
